Effects of Expanded - crushed Diet on Growth Performance and Nutrient Digestibility in Growing and Finishing Pigs

Abstract
Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of expended-crushed(EC) diet on growth performance and nutrient digestibility in growing and finishing pig. Dietary treatments were either mash(MS) or EC in both growing (Exp. 1) and finishing pigs(Exp. 2) trial. In Exp. 1, 36 growing pigs(Duroc ¡¿ Yorkshire ¡¿ Landrace, average initial body weight of 16.09¡¾0.2kg) were used in a 21 day growth assay. Pigs fed EC were higher (P$lt;0.05) in average daily gain(ADG) than pigs fed MS, whereas no significant differences in average daily feed intake(ADFI) and gain/feed(G/F) were found between dietary treatments. Also, DM and N digestibility of EC were, in general, significantly improved compared to those of MS(P$lt;0.05). In Exp. 2, 32 finishing pigs(Duroc ¡¿ Yorkshire ¡¿ Landrace, average initial body weight of 65.45¡¾0.5kg) were used in a 37 day growth assay. ADG was greater(P$lt;0.05) for pigs fed EC than for those given the MS. However. ADFI, G/F and nutrient digestibility were nut different between pigs fed each diet(P$gt;0.05). In conclusion, during both growing and finishing phase. EC of the corn-soybean meal based complete diet resulted an improvement in ADG compared to MS.
